WindSage privacy policy

Overview

WindSage is a marine wind and kiteboarding planning app. We collect only the information needed to operate the app, support users, deliver optional notifications, improve location quality, and manage first-party sponsor placements.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use IDFA. We do not use third-party ad networks or cross-app tracking in the current implementation.

Information we may collect

• App instance identifiers used to keep settings, favorites, notifications, and diagnostics associated with the same installation.
• Location preferences such as default kite spot, favorite spots, enabled locations, map settings, units, and kite setup preferences.
• Optional device location when you choose to use features such as nearby kite spots or driving estimates.
• Push notification device tokens, notification preferences, delivery status, and notification history when notifications are enabled.
• Feedback you submit, including current-wind feedback, rider setup feedback, general feedback, and location requests.
• Aggregate location usage events, such as which locations are selected or set as defaults, to understand which spots need better coverage.
• Aggregate sponsor-card impression counts when sponsor cards are enabled.
• Operational diagnostics needed to debug API, data freshness, and app reliability issues.

How we use information

• To provide local wind, tide, water-condition, and forecast information.
• To sync locations, settings, favorites, and notification preferences.
• To send optional notifications that you enable.
• To process feedback and location requests.
• To improve model calibration, station matching, and spot coverage.
• To count aggregate sponsor-card impressions without cross-app tracking.
• To maintain security, prevent abuse, and diagnose reliability problems.

Location data

WindSage may use your current location only when you choose a feature that needs it, such as showing nearby kite spots or estimating travel time. You can deny or revoke location permission in iOS Settings.

WindSage also stores app location preferences, such as your default and favorite kite spots. These are used to personalize the app and optional notifications.

Notifications

Push notifications are optional. If you enable them, WindSage stores your device token, notification preferences, enabled alert categories, delivery status, and related notification history. You can disable notifications in WindSage or in iOS Settings.

Sponsor cards

WindSage may display first-party sponsor cards for local sponsors or relevant riding-related offers. Sponsor cards are controlled by WindSage and are not served by a third-party advertising network in the current implementation.

We may count aggregate impressions to understand whether a sponsor card was displayed. We do not use this to track you across apps or websites.

Sharing

We may use infrastructure providers, such as hosting, database, and notification delivery providers, to operate WindSage. These providers process data only as needed to provide the service.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the security and integrity of WindSage.

Retention and deletion

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for app functionality, support, safety, debugging, legal compliance, and service improvement. You can request deletion through the instructions on the data deletion page.
